The instrument is a nice and very rare most likely German 17th Century antique sun dial compass with many engravings and digits all made with niello. An important piece to all nautical collectors as well as to watch and timepiece collectors. The instrument is in remarkably fine condition, and working order with a crisp clear inside where the magnetic arrow is, and could use a polish or shine, given it's centuries of aging and tarnish. The patina is as found. This portable nautical sun dial and compass is a fantastic antique ship navigation instrument and time piece, and makes a great display when positioned in a prominent place in the antique scientific instrument of a discriminating collector's prized accumulation.
