Antique G.Davis, Leeds Protractor ca.1835, Signed


Offered for sale is this outstanding boxed English (circa 1835) brass lacquered swing arm protractor, Signed G. Davis Leeds (1790-1851), mathematical instrument maker with two folding verniers in a fitted mahogany case. G. Davis Leeds was reported to have an instrument business at 24 Boar Lane, Leeds, London. This outstanding folding arm brass protractor is 6" in diameter, with two verniers inset scales, the folding arms supported by springs when extended, and have protracting pins at their ends for accurate plotting. The protractor is adjusted by rotating a pinion which acts on a rack around the periphery of the instrument for plotting theodolite readings, and a magnifier for reading the verniers.
